Ignorance is Bliss

As I come close to being finished with Brave New World, I find another reason why I think this world can not happen. The controller talks about how religion was taken out and no one believes in it anymore in their world. Well, this got me thinking. In every culture I know of, there has been some sort of belief system. Whether it be mulitiple gods, spirits, or God, there is a belief system of some sort. There are always some people who are so devout to their belief system also, so this new world cannot possibly get everyone to not belief in something. The Controller talks about how art and science was ridded of so that the people could be happy. By taking those things away, there is no more beauty or curiosity; no thirst for new knowledge.
In my opinion, the people are ignorant; they are not happy. The Controller must completely agree with the phrase, "ignorance is bliss," because that is how he is running his society. The people are kept completely in the dark about what is really out there and are just given drugs and each other. This makes them think that they are happy. They have even taken out old age because that is supposedly when people are old, they turn to religion. All of these things are taken away and replaced with a steady supply of soma and sex.
Is it really possible to get rid of all morals, all beliefs, and then replace them with drugs and sex?

I think it may be possible to get rid of morals and beliefs because isn't that what people are doing now? Some people practically sell their bodies in order to obtain drugs or cash to purchase drugs. In addition to that, there are married people who are unable to remain faithful to their spouses.

In spite of all this, I hope that morals and beliefs will not be replaced by drugs and sex because then what would happen to the world? Will our world slowly begin to resemble the world that Huxley wrote about in BNW?

Morals and beliefs have been slowing disappearing for a long time. If you look back at religion a couple of centuries ago, the measures people would go to just to show their faith to their God were tremendous. People gave their lives for their higher being. Nowadays, people go to church every Sunday and think they are more than fullfilling their religious duties.

Sex and drugs are all over the place today. People have no shame in hurting their bodies just to feel good. Our world is already becoming the world Huxley imagined.
