Good Bye Milli Vanilli, Hello Lin Miaoki

while watching  news, I saw a segment which caught my eye.  During the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics there was a children's choir singing, all of them beautiful, all of them innocent or where they?
The biggest scandal which occurred this year was that a little girl by the name of Yang Peiyi was told that she did not "have the face for TV." i am appalled by the idea of this!  Who are we to judge the sweet Innocent faces of children and rate whether or not they are dapper, or handsome enough to appear on TV.  So with Yang Peiyi being "Not quite TV material," the committee chose a more "pleasant" face of Lin Miaoki , who lip sync her ode to her homeland.  This dramatic incident comes back to Postman's Idea of Image is Key in today's society.  The Appearance of someone is now more important then their skills or their abilities.  I am found disgust with what has occurred and have sympathy for Yang Peiyi, and not only her, but for her parents, how would you feel if your child was told, they didn't have the face for TV?

*Lin Miaoki left, Yang Peiyi right.

I absolutely agree that they should have allowed the Yang Peiyi to appear on television since she was doing the singing. You must realize that today's society is based on image, but things are not going to change. In China that is acceptable. Yang Peiyi told reporters that she was just happy to be able to sing and that it brought her family great honor. However, that doesn't make it right. You can't expect things to change now though. Image is everything.

I also feel distraught on how telvision is viewing present, future, and deceased actors and actresses as them suppose to be perfect. Image is possibly everything for the media and a tiny speck of flaw with anybody is found, it is spotted out and contreversed about on live television as the one right now on how the young asian girl is uttered about over live television. It must break her little heart listening to the utter criticism.
