a look back at history.

In our history classes, we often see a sign that say, "Those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it." In our society today, we often look back at history in order to see past mistakes in order to not end up making the same mistakes. It is the only way our society can advance.

However, Huxley doesn't consider that idea as important. Is it because by looking back at history, individuality would occur due to the fact that people will see different aspects of life? Looking back at history would bring an end to the mindless and easily controlled society that is present in Brave New World. This is because in Brave New World is conditioned to obey and not question things. With the learning of history however, it would cause people to start questioning their society and breakdown the structure carefully built by the Controllers.

But why is it that people scoff at the idea of history and ridicule it? Is it cause the Controllers brainwash the people so well that they are conditioned to hate it so that they will never think about looking into the past? By doing that, the Controllers will never have to worry about people learning history. Only the Controllers have any knowledge of the past and therefore, they can twist it into whatever they what, which is showing the people how ridiculous it was.

So why do we feel the need to look back at history? Is it cause the individuality is calling out to us to look back and from history formulate new ideas? Do you guys also think that remembering history is only coexistent with individuality and not one that is controlled through the sole will of the government?
