"Everyone belongs to everyone else."

"Everyone belongs to everyone else." pg. 13, Brave New World.

It's something which young children in the conditioning center are thought to learn in their sleep throughout their 'conditioning'. This hypnophaesix lesson discourages exclusivity in friendship and love- or in other words 'conditions' people to prevent emotions brought by sexual exclusivity to ruin their society. John the Savage fancies Lenina no less than she fancies him. John, who is bound by tradition refrains from acting on his feelings. So it's not surprsing for him to be furious at Lenina who is 'conditioned' to offer herself at him.

Is sexual activity that invaluable to our to society? In BNW, factories throughout the world decant and condition babies to enter their society. Reproducing is therefore not a problem. Is it the pleasure provided in sexual activity that makes it valuable? If one can give them medicine that helps them get the adrenaline rush that the body needs to survive, why not give them medicines that give them the pleasure felt while having sex?
