LOSS OF LUST

I’m nearly finished with a brave new world, and I’m very surprised with its outcome. Bernard discovered Linda the ex-lover of the Director, and their son John while vacationing on a reservation with Lenina. They both returned to London with Bernard and Lenina. I wasn’t shocked by the way they were received. This just made me realize that a lot of their societies values were based on appearance. When someone started to age or just couldn’t do things society was use to they were pretty much thrown away. Society never had the chance to see the elderly walk amongst them. Linda was still one of them except she aged and looked different. They were so use to people getting sent away to the hospital, and being put on soma until their last breath that they handle Linda’s aged features.


This made me wonder does our society today attempt to do the same to our elderly. The answer is yes and no we do put them in homes when they become too much to care for. We also go out of our way making communities, special electronics, and other helpful necessities to keep our elderly comfortable.


As the chapters got farther along I noticed Lenina started developing actual feelings for the “Savage.” I found this very interesting because their conditioned to believe “that everyone belongs to everyone” so that this so sort of emotion will not occur. So you could imagine my surprise when it was made known that their feelings for each other was mutual. Lenina got it in her head that she wouldn’t take for an answer and practically threw herself at the “Savage.” Since he grew up on the reservation the “Savage wasn’t use to this conditioning. He believed in one man one women getting and starting family. So he wasn’t too happy when Lenina started undressing herself. He was clueless as to why the woman he adored so was acting like his mother use to. The ‘Savage” began to swell with anger and Lenina ran for cover. Neither one of them understood what had just happened, but this event brought an end to their budding romance.
