"Oh Ford!"

Though out the whole book of brave new world, we constantly hear, "Oh Ford"; who is this ford? is he a president, no! in my eyes Ford is their substitute for God. This situational irony is funny because they try to rid religion, and yet they enforce from a young age. They Say there is no God, and they Worship, Someone as a God. they might say, " oh, but it is not God, its Ford!" I would simply smile due to a lecture that i received from my Mother. i was frustrated, so i threw my ball at the ground and shouted " Piece of crap!" I got the angry mother look, she grabbed me and told me aside "even though you are not saying S---, you still are implying it with an other word," this brings me back to Brave New World, even though they call him Ford. they still see him as God, and religion.

This is a very good point you raise. Ford seems to be their God and in being an athiest culture they are violating their own laws when they use the name Ford in place of God. This controlled society seems to not care about their own rule as long as they control it and make up the rules they want people to follow.

And as you said, they would argue Ford not God, but, again, as you said its like saying the same thing only different.

As much as I see the similarities and the irony in this contradictory belief, I must also raise a point that they do not "worship" a devine being, they follow a man that was quite real and use his name in everyday life to praise him for what he did and to help his name (and memory) be carried on.
It seems after their "war" in which they rebuilt their society into what we are reading about, Henry Ford rose up and lead the way with technology. This "new world" they built exists after Ford's death and they continue to follow in his footsteps in building a utopia that makes everyone happy.

So while they do follow his beliefs, and use his name in both praises and swears [as we do the same with God's name (even though we shouldn't use it in the latter of the two)], they do not "worship" him, they merely praise him and wish to show that they follow his beliefs. Which, as you stated in your arguement, is contradictory to thier beliefs.

So while it may seem that I am contradicting my original statement of following your arguement, I am merely pointing out that their Ford is like Jesus in the Christian belief. He started a belief (or religion), that people follow, and instead of having God, they use its founder's name in his place.
