In reflecting on Brave New World I've seem to found a connection between John, Bernard, and Helmholtz. Although these men are very different they're also very similar. They all seem to share something within themselves; alienation. Each man in his on way doesn't fit into their world. Bernard is to scrawny and weak to uphold the position he was conditioned for. People seem to be offended by that and don't respect him at all. Helmholtz is the complete opposite of Bernard, but still feels out of place. He's too intelligent and strong for his surroundings and can never really be himself. John experiences alienation throughout the book. When he was living in the savage reservation he didn't fit in because he wasn't Indian and didn't have the right look. Although when he went to the "New World" he could have easily fit in if he wanted too he still didn't. John chose to be himself and do what he believed was right still being alienated. Huxley made a connection with all these men to show that no matter what state of life you're in we are all alike. What connection do you see with these men?

You are absolutely right; those three men are isolated from the rest of society. In a way, there isn’t a world to fit into. When anyone felt they were alone, they would turn to soma or sex for a distraction. Bernard and Helmholtz seemed to feel alone the most because they always felt they were different. Others were so brainwashed that they were convinced they were all the same. John, no matter how hard he tried, would always be an outsider. At they reservation, he looked different and because of Linda’s promiscuous ways, was constantly shunned. Within the civilized society, he was always viewed as just an experimental savage. All three men were unfortunately turned away for being different, but were privileged to be an individual, even though they didn’t think it was a positive thing.

Each of those men, especially Helmholtz and bernard, realized they actually have the power to think and say what they wanted and put it out there in the open. It just makes me wonder how many other people in their society might feel like they have some kind of power they are not exactly sure how to use but possibly just keeping it to themselves, in fear of being shunned from society like the other men.

Your right all of these mean do share the emotion of feeling alienated.I think Helemholtz and John especially found their voices.Helmholtz realized that he didn't have to hide who he really was after all, and with that JOhn got enough courage to stand up in society. They could've very well started a movement throughtout their society that showed people they are allowed to have ideas of their own.
