Stop Watching TV and Go Play Outside!

Has your mom or dad ever complained to you how you watch tv too much? That you're lazy and going to go blind from too much tv? Well, now you don't have to feel guilty because it's not your fault as much as it is your parents fault. Even though you shouldn't be watching tv that much, parents shouldn't complain how tv is polluting our head with nonsense(Oh yeah, it is). But it is not the television company's fault because if your parents don't want you to watch tv then they should do something about it and turn off the tv or something.

I'm not trying to put all the blame on parents because it is partly our fault that we fell into television's trap. I just think that parents shouldn't blame tv for everything. Just like how people
blame fast food industries for making them fat even though it's they're fault for eating it. We all know that fast food isn't the smartest choice in eating healthy, just like we all know that television is just a waste of time. Yes, there are shows that are inappropriate for our young and innocent minds, but we are old enough to know whether or not something is appropriate for us and it's our choice if we want to watch it or not. If parents want to waste their time complaining to the TV companies, then they can. Or they can simply set the parental control on their tvs.

I know it's not what kids would want their parents to do because some shows that are rated mature or R is quite enjoyable to watch. I am guilty at this. But this is more of a message toward the parents who don't take responsibility for their actions. They are the ones who introduced us to television and entertainment when we were young. As innocent as their action was, many kids today are now learning more from the television set then their own parents. But television is to blame for convincing parents that all those kid shows are "good" shows, when in all, it's just entertainment.

What do you think? Should parents be the blame of their kids watching too much television because they're not strict enough? Or is it the companies who make the shows and make it so attractive to young people?

I agree with you 100%. Many parents, not all, say taht television is to blame when they are the one's ALLOWING their children to watch it excessivly. Some shows, however, decive most parents, most...everyone really, convincing us that it is good or educational for us. Anything on television is not educational or "good" because nothing can have any real content on television. This is argued to the point where one MUST surrender to the logic Postman shows in "Amusing Ourselves to Death". So who is to blame for this brain washing television watching? The one doing the excessive watching and the one's allowing them to watch.

I believe a parent and their child are both at fault about how much television the child watches.

Yes, most parents introduce their children to television. The shows they usually see first are the educational animations and such. But, as children grow older, they can make their own choice about whether they want to watch television or not.

If a child chooses to watch a lot of television, then their parent should use their authority to discipline them. Parents can block certain channels, limiting what their children can see. Parents can also monitor the time their child spends watching television.

Television companies are smart when making shows. They are enticing and can draw in the viewers of the age group they want. I believe that most people have the capacity to stop watching what television; it's just that they choose not to follow through with it.
