I am currently reading Amusing Ourselves To Death by Neil Postman, and realized a lot of things while reading it. "I bring all of this up because what my book is about is how our own tribe is undergoing a vast and trembling shift from the magic of witting to the magic of electronics"(13). This is so true, and can be proven through our daily lives. Who takes the time to write a letter to a friend and mail it? Everyone now days use e-mails, myspace, facebook, aim, texts, ... etc. to communicate with there friends and it only takes a couple of seconds to send, which is 100 times faster than sending mail. We are using electronics such as computers, or texting from cell phones instead of witting letters to each other. Another thing that caught my eye while reading was what Neil Postman had to say about what we are interested in television. "The best things on television are it's junk"(16). I can agree and disagree with this statement. It is true that most of the shows we watch on television are junk, or in other words programs that are not educational, or teach us important things, but there are shows that can't be considered in the "junk" category. Law and Order is a great show that teaches us the principles of law and how it goes down in a case. CSI or crime scene investigation teaches us how people find evidence to find the perpetrators. House md is a show about a doctor who has to save peoples lives with the worst case scenario. All these shows are real jobs that can make us interested in becoming one, or something greater. Postman talks about in chapter 4, how even the newspaper, Americans are just reading on entertainment instead of politics or important issues. I do the same and read only about sports, or other forms of entertainment, which are not important right now. Has anyone else done the same in reading or watching the media instead of important things being covered in our world?

I believe that the "junk" on t.v. and our electronics are somewhat educational. Shows like CSI and Law and Order aren't "junk" the only reason that Mr. Postman thinks this shows are "junk" because its like you are learning and when you watch t.v. you don't really want to think you just want to watch an entertaining show such as LOST or Reaper.
As for going from writing mail to using electronics for coomunicating people seem that with the newer the technology is the more it is efficient to have news and maybe viable to the person he/she is trying to communicate with. So in other words the only reason more people turn to electronics to communicate is that if the news or information that needs to be told can be sent and spread faster than any handwritten letter can do.
