Peek-A-Boo! I understand you.

In Amusing Ourselves to Death there is a chapter called "The Peek-A-Boo World" which has captured my attention the most so far. It discusses how quickly and easily we go through fads of technology. We went through typography to photography to televsion and, now, computers. Each comes in with a big bang and fades out due to another big bang.
We are living in a "peek-a-boo" world and it is pretty childish. We can't hold our attention to one amazement for long.
Does anyone else see the foolishness in this? Or are you so amused by it that you thought that chapter was absurd?

I agree 100%. Today in our culture it is all about music and with that we need to store our music somewhere portable and hence the walkman, but this has not been the only attempt because Apple Inc. broke that chain with the groundbreaking iPod. Very rarely do you see anyone with a cd player anymore, it is either the iPod or some other MP3 player and like you said Cierra we quickly forget about yesterdays technology and are on with the new.

I agree that technology has become huge way of life. Also i think that technology has turned into a trend. We're always looking for a machine to entertain us and if there is a new piece of machinery thats even more entertaining then thats considered more convenient. Buying the products that are new displays to people around us that we are using the current technology. Computers or iPods really distract our society, and in some cases make us lazy and carefree. If you saw the movie Walle the story really shows the how ignorant and openminded we have become towards tecnology. In the story humans were completely attached to their computers and they were depends on the robots to do everyday routines.

I agree. Everyone has to have the new cell phone or new iPod. Usually for no reason, just to have the latest and greatest. Postman is right in saying we cant keep ourselves entertained for very long. We could easily keep ourselves buisy by conversating about actual important things. Not about television shows or Myspace or Facebook, but about our future as a whole. Trying to survive with a cleaner earth or good president and not wrapped up in our own little worlds. Why cant more people talk about that kind of stuff? Why cant more people go to college and make a difference in the world? Has society corrupted itself?
