Brave New World is a very interesting book about a world in the distant future. Having more than one partner is expected from "people." Drugs are used to make you feel better if things aren't going well. The thoughts of having a mother and father is obscene. Their jobs are assigned to them at birth. Even as children they were taught to think a certain way of be who they are. Also thinking and having morals isn't even an option.
When I first started to read this book, it blew my mind how detailed this world was and how things that are acceptable there aren't here. It made me think about our society and how just decades ago things that weren't even spoke about in public are now on mainstream TV. I sort make me think that maybe Huxley predicted our reality. Being smart and doing good in school is now a thing of the past, now people just want to famous. Very much like how the Director explained to the students about the way the people were made and devolped. The characters in this book are taught to like and dislike certain things and people. Very much like we are as teenagers are put into groups based on who we are and what we look like.
This book so far had me thinking a lot and comparing and contrasting their society to our. Somethings made me think " Whoa that's weird and different" while on the other hand think maybe this is what he think the future will be and what we are starting to see happened. What things do you see that are socially accepted but are maybe are not actually okay?

As I've said before, in a thread quite a while ago, I don't beileve that Huxley's world could be made possible unless there were some major war of some sort that could change the status quo. However, as Matt Manabat had stated,I do think our technology is too great to achieve this without destroying the human world, or at least the great majority of it.
As for things that are socially accepted but actually are not ok, I believe that this fall onto the individual. Religion, morale values, and other factors may heavily influence everyone's views on what is okay and what is not.
Personally, I think some "simple" things such as bullying, at times are socially accepted, especially if the bullies are in a group.
People generally feel safe when others are doing the same as they are whether it is ok or not. The idea of a group of people doing something usually serves as justification for others to follow suit. Afterall isn't it usually the black sheep that suffers.

For a man born in the 1800's, Huxley had a good prediction on these types of invents which intrigues me. But his ideas are starting to have some similarities with our common era. Having mutliple "partners" in Huxley's world isn't that drmatically different from our world where there exist polygamy. Although this sounds commonly sane for them, i find it immoral and insane. But what can i judge? i haven't been in their shoes so i don't know. Another thing is the childrens being taught to be a certain way. It's not that different from our world where our mother's and father's tell us what to do and lectures to us about growing up to becoming a doctor or some sort. Parents today also lectures kids to like certain things and dislike certain things like a group of people they find "not safe" or something. Well, in our generation today, people take plenty of drugs to relieve stress and even get physically dependent on it. It's pretty common around the united states. Although our world and Huxley's imaganitive world have some common grounds, Huxley's takes it a bit further and creates new typed of boundaries that we don't highly accept. But some people like it and some don't. That's the way people always are
