Different Beyond Measures

Brave New World is starting to get interesting a lot better. I am half way done with the book about and it is very intriguing. What is up with the Savage Reservation? Is it a community built to be different from the factory? At the community celebration a guy whipped a kid so many times that he literaly bleed almost to death. What was that all about? Was it a community ritual or was it a time where it made a kid become a man? Later that night, i believe, John went up to Lenina and told her that he should have been chosen but the community said no. He tells Lenina that his mother came from the "Other Place" and the whole story about his family. I am pretty sure the "Other Place" is where Bernard and Lenina are from and i do not think that is right how the community said no to John probably cause his mother was not born in the Savage Reservation. Later, John tells Bernard about his father and tells him his fathers name, then Bernard makes a connection the his father is the Director of the factory. I plan to finish the book soon and hopefully it gets better and better.

The Savage Reservation is basicly a place that was left unchanged and did not undergo any technological changes or advances as "The Other Place." It serves as a tourist place for those who are intresting in watching how uncivilized the savages are.

As for the whipping ceremony, I do believe it's part of the savages cultural ritural, a sacrifical ritual.

John's mother is from the "Other Place" also known as the more civilized society. And yes, it's the same place that Bernard and Lenina are from.

The book definately gets better, especially with the story of the Director and John and John's mother Linda. The darker and deeper meanings behind the book also make it a wonderful read once it really gets you thinking.

When I was reading about the Savage reservation i was kind of likw "Wow." The way that Lenina and Linda describe that place was kind of mean. The community definitely said no to John because of his mom. I don't blame them because his mom hasn't tried to join the community. She is an outsider in the Savage Reservation.
