Looking at our modern society we are very similar to Brave New World in a sense that both use technology to control people. In Brave New World they have powerful technologies that control reproduction and entertainment. In our modern society we have those very things as well perhaps not that advance but soon we will get there. In Brave New World they control reproduction by taking out the female’s ovaries, in our society we have contraceptives and pills that we can take. In Brave New World television is the primary source of media, and hey would you look at that, television is also our primary source of media. Television is everywhere. Just as technology is use to control people in Brave New World, we also are being controlled by technology. We succumb to television it brainwashes us even when we don’t expect it. When we sit on our coach and watch television for several hours our brains fry and we are mindlessly staring at the screen, it is kind of like we are in a state of hypnosis. Advertisements flash by on the television screen and we mindlessly take it in, and after continuous repetitions we are in a sense brainwashed, similar to hypnopaedia. We are brainwashed into buying certain products, and thus we are controlled and manipulated. In both societies the people are controlled by technology. Of course this is just my opinion so please if anyone thinks otherwise I would like to hear your views on this matter.

I somewhat agree, but there is one MAJOR factor that separates our society from theirs. Modern day people actually have the ability to think for themselves. It is true that we have contraceptives and pills of sorts that can control reproduction, but the people are still in control. Also, television may seem to brainwash some of us, but I feel that many people in our society make up for it by reading and becoming educated. Most people already know that modern television is meant to brainwash and manipulate you with it's persuasive advertisements. Because of this, most modern people are aware that most ad's are jus a hoax, and dont' even bother paying attention to them. Television is used for entertainment, but it doesn't brainwash...yet. If things continue how they are going, and ad's become more and more persuasive, Huxley's prophesy may just come true.
